Area Youths Advance at Clay Court Tournament

Sixth-seeded Robert Yim of Glendale and 17th-seeded Matthew Loucks of Irvine advanced to the round of 16 in the U.S. Tennis Assn. Super National Boys’ 18 Clay Court Championships with victories Wednesday at the Louisville Tennis Club in Louisville, Ky.

Yim defeated Jason Hazley of Bradenton, Fla., 6-4, 2-6, 6-4, in the fourth round. Loucks beat Hans Plukas of Lincoln, Mass., 6-2, 6-4.

* At the U.S. Tennis Assn. Super National Boys’ 16 Clay Court Championships at Woodmont Country Club in Rockville, Md., Adam Loucks of Irvine advanced to today’s fourth round in singles and to the quarterfinals in doubles play.

The unseeded Loucks defeated 17th-seeded Ruben Gonzales, 6-2, 6-3, in singles.

In doubles, Loucks and Eric Riley of Rancho Santa Fe beat Amir Ardavan Mirheydar of Plymouth, Minn., and Sion Wilkins of Minneapolis, 6-2, 6-1.

* Fifth-seeded Angela Haynes of Compton, seventh-seeded Brittany Reitz of Newport Coast and 17th-seeded Lori Stern of Ojai, the only remaining Southern California players in the 256-player draw, were eliminated in the fourth round of the 2001 U.S. Tennis Assn. Super National Girls’ 18 Clay Court Championships at The Racquet Club of Memphis in Memphis, Tenn.

* Anne Yelsey of Corona del Mar, Judith De Vera of Carson and Riza Zalemeda of Los Angeles advanced to the round of 16 with victories in the 2001 U.S. Tennis Assn. Super National Girls’ 16 Clay Court Championships at Virginia Beach Tennis and Country Club in Virgina Beach, Va.

* Gary Sacks of Calabasas defeated Jay Goldman of Worcester, Mass., 7-6 (0), 3-6, 6-0, becoming the only Southern California player to advance to the round of 16 in the Super National Boys’ 14 Clay Court Championships at Jimmy Evert Tennis Center in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
