Lee, Park Advance in U.S. Junior Girls

Stella Lee of Irvine and Jane Park of Crescenta Valley won two golf matches Wednesday in the U.S. Junior Girls Championship and advanced to today’s sweet 16 at Indian Hills Country Club in Mission Hills, Kan.

Lee, who will attend UC Irvine in the fall, defeated Dayna Burleigh of Horsham, Penn., 2 up, in the first round and defeated Erica Battle of Columbia, S.C., in 18 holes.

Park beat Jessica Lovell of Birmingham, Ala., 5 and 3, in the morning round, then defeated Catalina Marin of Columbia, 4 and 3.

Erica Blasberg of Corona, the 2000 medalist, and Angela Won of Irvine, a semifinalist in 2000, were eliminated.

* Kevin Na of Diamond Bar shot a two-under 69 for a two-day total of 139 and advanced to match play in the U.S. Junior Championship at Oak Hills Country Club in San Antonio.

Na will be seeded eighth for the match-play portion, which begins today. He finished seven strokes behind James Vargas of Miami, who set a tournament stroke-play record with rounds of 65-67--132.

Josh Wooding of Riverside (140), Henry Liaw of Rowland Heights (143), Nicholas Wilkins of Loma Linda (145), Philip Telliard of Riverside (147), Kyle Metzler of Rancho Murrieta (148) and Brandon Hilpot of Colton (150) also advanced.
