FIRST TEAM

PATRICK BUCHANAN

Singles Servite Jr.

For the second consecutive season, Buchanan was undefeated in team matches. In individual play, he won the Ojai interscholastic singles title and was a finalist in the Southern Section tournament. He capped his season by leading Servite to its first section title.

SERGIU MODOC

Singles El Dorado Jr.

One of the county’s biggest surprises, Modoc led El Dorado to the Division III playoffs, going 39-0 in dual sets. At Ojai, he reached the semifinals of boys’ interscholastic singles before losing to eventual champion Patrick Buchanan. In the section individuals, he lost to the eventual champion in the quarterfinals.

AARON YOVAN

Singles University Jr.

A first-team pick for the second consecutive year, Yovan won 33 of 36 sets in team play, helping University to its second consecutive Division II title. He reached the Ojai interscholastic singles final, losing to Buchanan in three sets. In the section individuals, he fell to Buchanan in the semifinals.

Doubles Los Alamitos Sr./Jr.

In team play, they won 61 of 63 sets and swept in the Division I title match against Capistrano Valley. They won the Sunset League doubles title and reached the round of 16 in the section individuals, losing in three sets.

GARRETT SNYDER

Doubles Corona del Mar Sr./So.

The duo became the first Orange County team in nine years to win the section doubles title, beating second-seeded Phil Sheng and Andrew Lieu (Thousand Oaks) in final. They also reached Ojai final and won the Pacific Coast League title. Snyder was 53-1 in dual matches, 15-0 in doubles. Morton was 33-6 in singles and 6-0 in doubles.

BRETT VAN LINGE/

BIJAN NOROOZI

Doubles Woodbridge Jr./Sr.

The Sea View League champions reached the quarterfinals of the section individual tournament. Van Linge was 56-12 overall in dual matches, 9-0 in doubles. Noroozi was 54-12 and 42-9.

SINGLES

Cameron Ball, Corona del Mar, Jr.: The Pacific Coast League singles runner-up, Ball, won 47 of 51 singles sets in team play..

Jeffrey Das,Troy, So: The Freeway League singles champion, Das, reached the round of 16 in the section individuals.

Kevin McQuaid, Los Alamitos, So.: McQuaid won 38 of 39 sets in dual matches and helped the Griffins to the Division I title.

DOUBLES

Travis Kula/John Nguyen, Canyon, Sr./Sr.: Reached the round of 16 in section individuals. Kula was 62-1 in doubles, 6-3 in singles. Nguyen was 46-11, 15-0.

Derrick Klunchoo/Robbie Lamour, Capistrano Valley, Sr/Jr.: The South Coast League doubles champions reached the round of 16 at the section individuals.

Peter Kulmaticki/Michael Bean, Corona del Mar, Sr./Sr.: Won Pacific Coast League title, reached the third round of section individuals.

KEVIN GARRETT, COACH OF THE YEAR

A former player and junior varsity coach at Los Alamitos, Garrett took over a program that had reached the section semifinals six times but had never been to a final. Under Garrett the Griffins won a school-record 21 matches and the school’s first boys’ tennis title, beating Capistrano Valley in the Division I final.
