Guntz Is Selected City Player of Year

Joe Guntz, a junior left-hander from Chatsworth High, has been selected City Section player of the year in baseball.

Guntz had a 14-0 record and a 1.28 earned-run average in leading the Chancellors (31-2) to their fourth City Championship. He is 25-0 in two seasons.

Guntz was one of five Chatsworth players selected All-City by a panel of sportswriters. Outfielder Brian Lee and second baseman Gregg Wallis were first-team picks, with catcher Danny Dominguez and shortstop Ryan Barba second-team selections.

Other first-team selections included designated hitter Ryan Braun of Granada Hills, pitchers Abraham Gonzalez of San Fernando and Eddie Degerman of Granada Hills, catchers Jose Carrillo of Birmingham and Phil Avlas of Kennedy, infielders Jamie Mah of Sylmar and Robert Marcial of Cleveland, and utility player Adam Geery of Kennedy.

Second-team selections were pitchers Joe Hampel of Poly and Byron Grubman of Cleveland, catchers DJ Lewis of North Hollywood and Aldo Montalvan of San Fernando, infielder Nick Arroyo of Cleveland, and outfielders Hector Chavez of Sylmar and Carlos Gallo of El Camino Real.
