Rizza Advances With Three-Set Victory
Fifth-seeded Rylan Rizza of Rancho Palos Verdes defeated Ryan Redondo of Carlsbad, 7-5, 3-6, 6-3, in the boys’ 18 singles division of the Southern California Sectional Championships Wednesday at Fountain Valley.
The victory earned Rizza a spot in the round of 16.
The top-seeded players in each division advanced to the round of 16, including Doug Stewart of Malibu in boys’ 18, Jack Li of Irvine in boys’ 16 and Carsten Ball of Newport Beach in boys’ 14. Iris Ichim of Beverly Hills advanced in girls’ 18, Robyn Baker of Palm Desert in 16s and Cosmina Ciobanu of Brea in 14s.
