1 School Hopes for 2 Titles

El Camino Real will try today to become the first school to win City Section soccer championships for boys and girls in the same season since 1992, when Chatsworth accomplished the feat.

The El Camino Real boys, ranked No. 1 in the region by The Times, return to the title game after winning the championship in 1999. The Conquistadores (26-3) play University at UCLA at 1:15 p.m..

The El Camino Real girls, champions of the West Valley League, are playing in their first final, but against a familiar opponent. The Conquistadores (19-1-2) play five-time defending champion Chatsworth at UCLA at 3:30 p.m. El Camino Real defeated Chatsworth, 1-0 and 2-1, in league play.

In Southern Section finals today, Mission League champion St. Francis (22-5) plays Diamond Ranch in the boys’ Division IV championship at 10 a.m. at Gahr High in Cerritos. The Golden Knights are trying for a second title. They defeated Arroyo Grande, 4-0, in the Division III final in 1996.

Mission League rivals Louisville and Harvard-Westlake square off at 2 p.m. at Gahr High for the Division IV girls’ title.

The Wolverines (18-3-4) lost in the final in 1992. The Royals (18-8-2) are making their first appearance in a final.
