Pitino No Longer Candidate at UNLV
Nevada Las Vegas posted a statement on its Web site Sunday night saying Rick Pitino is no longer a candidate for the school’s coaching job.
Pitino had been involved in a courting process with the president and athletic director at UNLV since he resigned in January as coach and president of the Boston Celtics. UNLV fired coach Billy Bayno in December after the NCAA put the program on four years’ probation. Max Good, a Bayno assistant, served as interim coach and the Runnin’ Rebels finished with a 16-13 record.
“While speaking with Rick Pitino earlier this evening, he expressed to me the fact that he didn’t feel he was a good fit for the UNLV men’s basketball program,” UNLV Athletic Director Charles Cavagnaro said.
