Grizzly Loss for Trail Blazers

Shareef Abdur-Rahim scored 15 points as Vancouver defeated Portland, 95-85, Friday night at Vancouver, Canada, the Grizzlies’ second victory over the Trail Blazers in four days.

The Grizzlies, who defeated the Trail Blazers, 105-97, Tuesday in Portland, dealt Portland its third consecutive loss.

The victory was Vancouver’s fifth in 11 games against Portland at GM Place.

Bonzi Wells led Portland with 24 points.

Vancouver, which entered the game ranked 27th in the league in shooting, hit 48% of its shots in the first half as the Grizzlies built a 45-43 lead.

Both teams shot 50% in the third quarter as the Grizzlies moved to a 72-70 lead heading into the fourth.

The Grizzlies built their lead to 90-83 with 3:27 to go, and the Blazers were unable to make a late run.

Vancouver rookie Stromile Swift finished with 13 points on six-of-nine shooting, with seven rebounds in 25 minutes for Vancouver.

Philadelphia 108, Atlanta 103--Allen Iverson scored 47 points and Dikembe Mutombo had 13 points, 13 rebounds and nine blocked shots against his former team at Philadelphia.

The Hawks have lost 10 consecutive, including nine since trading Mutombo to Philadelphia in a five-player deal on Feb. 22.

Jason Terry had 25 points and Nazr Mohammed, who was sent to Atlanta along with Theo Ratliff, Toni Kukoc and Pepe Sanchez for Mutombo, scored a career-high 18.

Utah 107, Phoenix 95--Karl Malone had 20 points and 10 rebounds at Salt Lake City as the Jazz won its fourth consecutive.

David Benoit scored a season-high 18 points, Bryon Russell had 14 and John Stockton 12 as Utah maintained its lead in the race for the top seed in the Western Conference playoffs.

Sacramento 110, Denver 104--Chris Webber had 41 points and 12 rebounds at Sacramento as the Kings defeated the Nuggets.

Peja Stojakovic scored 24 points for the Kings, who won their third consecutive and for the sixth time in seven games.

Dallas 102, Golden State 73--Dirk Nowitzki shot 14 for 17 from the free-throw line and scored 32 points at Dallas as the Mavericks defeated the Warriors for the eighth consecutive time.

Juwan Howard added 15 points and Shawn Bradley had 12 points, a season-high 20 rebounds and five blocked shots as the Mavericks earned their fifth victory in six games.

Miami 86, Minnesota 79--Anthony Mason had 22 points and 10 rebounds as the Heat held the Timberwolves without a point for nearly 10 1/2 minutes in the second half at Miami and snapped Minnesota’s four-game winning streak.

Minnesota’s Kevin Garnett was shut out over the final 18 1/2 minutes and finished with 13 points, nearly 10 below his average.

New Jersey 96, New York 83--Johnny Newman scored 18 points in his first start of the year and the Nets defeated the Knicks at East Rutherford, N.J., in a game that included five technical fouls.

Keith Van Horn added 20 points and 11 rebounds, Kenyon Martin had 14 points and 12 rebounds and Stephon Marbury added 12 points and 12 assists.

Indiana 99, Cleveland 84--Jalen Rose scored 35 points, Jermaine O’Neal had 16 points and 15 rebounds and Reggie Miller had 18 points at Indianapolis as the Pacers snapped a four-game losing streak.

Miller needs two points to surpass Walt Bellamy for 21st place on the NBA’s career scoring list.

Boston 104, Washington 72--Antoine Walker scored 24 points and Paul Pierce had a double-double with 21 points and 12 rebounds at Boston as the Celtics snapped a two-game losing streak.

Walker and Pierce combined for 15 assists as the Celtics remained one game behind the Pacers in the hunt for the eighth playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

Toronto 110, Seattle 99--Vince Carter scored 32 points, including 13 in the fourth quarter, as the Raptors won at Seattle.

Detroit 108, Chicago 75--Jerry Stackhouse scored 23 points and Joe Smith had 16 at Auburn Hills, Mich., as the Pistons extended the Bulls’ franchise-record road losing streak to 17 games.
