Cashion Pays Dividends for Irvine

Irvine’s Courtney Cashion was one of 23 girls to record Southern Section qualifying times Wednesday in a Sea View League swim meet between the top-ranked Vaqueros and No. 2 Newport Harbor.

Irvine won the meet, 116-54, at Heritage Park.

Cashion won the 50-yard freestyle in 24.58 seconds, and was on the winning 200 and 400 free relays. Sarah Hamilton clocked a 1:07.64 in winning the 100 breaststroke.

Carly Geehr won the 200 individual medley in 2:08.44 and the 500 free in 5:07.89 for Newport Harbor.

In the Century League:

No. 5 Foothill 101, No. 7 Canyon 69--Jillian Kraus won the 200 freestyle in 1:59.03 and the 100 breaststroke in 1:12.78 for Foothill. Canyon’s Erin Volcan won the 100 free in 52.88, the 100 butterfly in 1:00.88.

In the Freeway League:

Sunny Hills 121, Sonora 54--Jessica Witt won the 200 individual medley (2:11.83) and 500 free (5:06.06), and Carissa Abe won the 100 butterfly (1:01.80) and 100 backstroke (1:02.53) for Sunny Hills (3-0, 1-0).

In the Golden West League:

Tustin 114, Ocean View 52--Geraldine and Evelyn Ditommaso swam on the winning 200 medley and 400 freestyle relay teams and each won two individual events for host Tustin (4-2, 1-0).

In the Sunset League:

Los Alamitos 93, Marina 79--Jessica Levin qualified in the 50 free and 100 free for CIF consideration for Los Alamitos (2-3, 1-0).

In Century League boys’ swimming:

No. 8 Villa Park 123, El Modena 39--Mark Liao won the 50 free (23.85) and 100 breaststroke (1:08.25), Josh Cashuk won the 200 free (1:59.89) and 500 free (5:21.99) and Jared Jones won the 100 free (51.19) and 100 backstroke (1:00.03) for Villa Park (3-3, 1-0).

In the Freeway League:

Sunny Hills 133, Sonora 40--Erik Hansen won the 100 butterfly (53.98) and 100 backstroke (56.75) and Tim Chang won the 200 (1:53.77) and 500 (5:22.44) freestyles for Sunny Hills (2-1, 1-0).

In the Sunset League:

Los Alamitos 104, Marina 78--John Hanna won the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle (4:58.06) and teammate Erik Chrisman took first in the 50 and 100 free events for Los Alamitos (5-1, 1-0).
