Palos Verdes Peninsula defended its title in the National High School Tennis All-America tournament last weekend in Newport Beach.

The Panthers, the defending Southern Section Division I champions, defeated Millbrae Mills, Sacramento Jesuit, Fresno Clovis West and Corona del Mar to win the 12-team competition that featured eight teams from California and Greensville Christ Church Episcopal School (S.C.), Woodberry Forest (Va.), Riverdale Horace Mann (N.Y.) and Phoenix Brophy Prep (Ariz.).

Peninsula, however, lost to Brentwood, 10-8, in a nonleague match Wednesday.
