Jim Warren has resigned as Newport Harbor High golf coach, citing philosophical differences with the athletic administration.
Warren, in his seventh season, said an incident with a team member during a March 6 match against Huntington Beach triggered his resignation. He did not go into details, other than to cite “philosophical differences in discipline.”

Prep golf--Newport Harbor High’s Jim Warren resigned as boys’ golf coach because of a conflict with parents and players, not because of any philosophical differences with the school’s athletic administration, as reported Tuesday.
Athletic Director Eric Tweit also declined to discuss details.
Warren, the third golf coach in Newport Harbor history, had an 83-77 record and guided the Sailors to Sea View League and Southern Section South Coast divisional titles in 2000. He also coached the girls’ team the last two years.
Assistant coach Marianne Towersey has been named interim coach, Tweit said.
