Simi Valley Wins With Wild Finish

Casey Gordon scored from third base on a wild pitch by Jason Urquidez to cap a three-run seventh inning and Simi Valley High knocked off Royal, 6-5, on Wednesday in a Marmonte League baseball game at Royal.

Mike Nykoluk (1-0) of Simi Valley (6-5, 2-2 in league play) shut out the Highlanders (10-2, 2-1), ranked No. 3 in the region by The Times, over the last two innings.

Danny Turock had three hits, walked once and stole three bases, Gordon had two hits and two runs batted in, and Steve Westerfield had two hits for Simi Valley.

David Talley had two hits for Royal.

Sylmar 5, Kennedy 3--Jamie Mah had four hits and drove in two runs, and Hector Chavez had three hits for the Spartans in a Valley Mission League victory at Kennedy.

Mah hit a solo home run in the third to give Sylmar (8-3, 4-0) a 4-0 lead before Kennedy (9-4, 2-2), ranked No. 5, pulled to within 4-3 in the bottom of the inning.

Mah hit a run-scoring single in the fourth.

Marco Estrada (5-0) pitched a five-hitter for the Spartans, who beat Kennedy, 8-1, on Monday. He struck out two and walked four.

Westlake 3, Agoura 2--Brandon Nunez’s two-run single in the fourth gave the Warriors a Marmonte League victory at Westlake.

Jamie Hesselgesser had two hits and an RBI for Westlake (7-3-1, 2-2-1).

Lancaster 13, Littlerock 1--Tony Ortiz tripled, homered and drove in four runs in a Golden League game at Littlerock.

Brian Mitchell pitched a five-inning four-hitter for Lancaster (8-2-1, 4-0). The game was halted early because of the 10-run rule.

San Fernando 5, Monroe 2--Abraham Gonzalez drove in two runs and Bobby Esparca had two hits and an RBI for the Tigers (9-2, 4-0) in a Valley Mission League victory at San Fernando.

COLLEGE SOFTBALL

Antelope Valley 16, Mt. San Jacinto 3--Katy Gonzales hit a solo home run and RBI triple in an 11-run first for the Marauders (15-4, 7-0) in a Foothill Conference game called after five innings at Antelope Valley.

Hawaii 2-0, Cal State Northridge 1-2--Summer Richardson and Sarah Farnworth combined on a five-hitter and the Matadors salvaged a split at Northridge.

Cristen Bedwell hit a solo homer for Northridge (18-15).
