Kevin Carter, an All-Pro two years ago but a big disappointment last season, was traded by the St. Louis Rams to the Titans.

The Titans, who dealt a first-round draft pick for Carter, also announced that they reached terms on a six-year contract with the defensive end. The NFL was reviewing the trade and the proposed deal.

The trade gives the Rams two first-round picks, adding to their original No. 20 selection in April’s draft. The Titans had the No. 29 selection.

Orlando Brown filed a $200-million lawsuit against the NFL, claiming his career was ended by eye injuries sustained from a penalty flag thrown by a referee.

Brown’s complaint charges the league failed “to properly supervise and enforce rules that flags be properly weighted and thrown in a proper fashion,” lawyer Clifford J. Stern said.

A starting offensive tackle for most of his seven-year NFL career, Brown was with the Cleveland Browns when he was injured in 1999. Brown never played again and was cut by the Browns in September 2000. But he was paid for the first three games of the season.

Denver Bronco quarterback Brian Griese was put on 12 months’ probation after pleading guilty to a drunk-driving charge. . . . The New Orleans Saints, saying the Superdome does not satisfy their needs or allow them to generate the income they need to operate a competitive NFL team, are demanding arbitration with Louisiana over the contention that the Superdome defaulted on their lease.
