TIMES STAFF WRITER

Cedric Bozeman of Mater Dei and Josh Childress of Lakewood Mayfair High capped their high school basketball careers Wednesday night by participating in the McDonald’s All-American game at Cameron Indoor Stadium at Durham, N.C.

Bozeman, a 6-foot-6 guard who will attend UCLA, scored eight points, on four-of-nine shooting for the West team. Childress, a 6-6 forward who will attend Stanford, made three of six shots, two of three free throws and finished with eight points as the West team defeated the East, 131-125.

Compton Dominguez center Tyson Chandler was selected for the game but did not participate. Chandler, expected to bypass college and make himself eligible for the NBA draft, is recovering from a severely sprained ankle suffered in the regional semifinal of the state tournament.

MORE MONARCH HONORS

Bozeman and Mater Dei teammate Jamal Sampson have been selected to play in the Derby Festival Basketball Classic April 6 in Louisville, Ky.

They will face a team that includes swingman Childress and several players who competed against them during their run to the Division I state championship. Kentucky recruits Rashaad Carruth and Chuck Hayes also will play.

Carruth, from Mouth of Wilson (Va.) Oak Hill Academy, made seven three-pointers in the Warriors’ 66-55 victory over Mater Dei in late December. Hayes scored a game-high 18 points for Modesto Christian in a 57-54 Division I state championship game loss to the Monarchs this month.
