Hauser-Price Cuts Through the Wind

Sierra Hauser-Price of Notre Dame High is looking for a tail wind.

Nothing real strong.

Something in the 1.0- or 1.5-meter-per-second range would be nice.

It would certainly beat the headwinds that the senior ran against Friday while winning the girls’ 100- and 200-meter dashes in the Mission League track and field finals at Cal State Northridge.

Hauser-Price tied her season best in the 100 with a time of 12.12 and lowered her season best to 24.51 in the 200, but wondered what her times might have been had those races not been run into winds measuring 1.6 and 1.4 meters-per-second.

“We came out here [Thursday] and the wind was perfect,” Hauser-Price said. “I said, ‘Yeah. I’m going to run sub-12.’ Then I came out here today and it was blowing hard.”

Hauser-Price, who is headed to Michigan on a basketball and track scholarship, won her third consecutive league title in the 100 and her fourth in a row in the 200. She also led off the winning 400 relay team that clocked 49.15 and anchored the victorious 1,600 relay team that timed 4:04.18.

Senior Jon Williams of Notre Dame, defending Division III champion in the boys’ 110 high hurdles and the 300 intermediates, won those races in season bests of 14.35 and 38.25.

Senior Robert Kubler of Crespi won the boys’ 1,600 in 4:25.57 and the 3,200 in 9:53.43 while freshman Lindsay Flacks of Harvard-Westlake placed first in the girls’ 1,600 in 5:25.67 and in the 3,200 in 11:38.85.

Junior Tracy Johnson of Notre Dame won the girls’ 100 high hurdles in a wind-aided 15.68 and the triple jump at 33-6 1/2.

The top two finishers in each event automatically qualified for next week’s Southern Section preliminaries while finishers in third or below advanced to the preliminaries if they met qualifying standards.
