La Riva’s 29 Strikeouts Lead Tustin in 11

Diana La Riva struck out 29 batters and pitched an 11-inning no-hitter to lead Tustin past Elsinore, 1-0, in the first round of the Division III softball playoffs Friday at Tustin.
La Riva (14-2-1), a junior, began the day with 207 strikeouts, second in Orange County behind Northwood’s Alison Lewis. Only one Elsinore batter reached base against her, on a dropped third strike.
The Tillers (19-4-1) scored in the bottom of the 11th when Shawna Silvas singled home pinch-runner Kirsten Masse. Tustin plays Santa Margarita in the next round.
