Hueneme Can’t Cash In, 4-2
Kyle Allen struck out the side twice--the second time with more difficulty than the first--in the final two innings and Trabuco Hills High hung on to defeat Hueneme, 4-2, in a Southern Section Division II playoff game on Tuesday at Hueneme.
Allen, who began the game at first base, relieved starter Mario Ramirez (3-1) with one out and the bases loaded in the fifth inning, then recorded seven strikeouts en route to his second save.
The biggest came with a called third strike against Sabino Pitones that ended the game, stranding three runners.
Hueneme (18-11) loaded the bases in the seventh with two singles and a hit batter before Allen caught Pitones looking at an inside pitch on a 2-2 count.
Trabuco Hills (20-8) plays Irvine, a 4-1 winner over Hart, on Friday.
Allen escaped the fifth by striking out Luis Aguayo with the bases loaded and retiring Pitones on a fielder’s choice.
In the sixth, Allen struck out the side in order.
Trabuco Hills took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Brad Boster scored from third on a passed ball.
Trabuco Hills added two unearned runs with two out in the fifth to take a 3-0 lead against Chris Camacho (5-4).
Hueneme cut the margin to 3-2 in the fifth after Allen took the mound with the bases loaded. Gharrett Levette and Jaime Martinez drew bases-loaded walks.
In the sixth, Andrew Romine’s run-scoring single gave Trabuco Hills a 4-2 lead.
