Jared Halpert and Ryan Barba hit home runs, and Sean Richards pitched a four-hitter to carry Chatsworth High past Narbonne, 2-1, on Tuesday in a City Championship quarterfinal baseball game at Chatsworth.

The top-seeded Chancellors (29-2) advanced to a semifinal against No. 4-seeded Banning (22-11) on Thursday at a site to be determined.

Halpert’s home run over the 390-foot sign in center field came against Chris Zuvich (8-6) with two out in the fourth inning, tying the score, 1-1.

Barba put the Chancellors ahead with one out in the fifth with a towering homer over the left-field net.

Richards (7-0), a left-handed senior, struck out five.

Narbonne (17-12) scored with one out in the fourth after consecutive singles put runners at the corners, and a groundout to shortstop pushed the run across.

Gregg Wallis had three of Chatsworth’s seven hits.

In other City Championship quarterfinals:

Banning 4, San Fernando 0--Rafael Sixtos’ two-hitter and two San Fernando errors were the deciding factors at Banning.

Banning (22-11) got all the runs it would need in the second inning. Stevie Lopez led off with a fly-ball single that dropped in front of center fielder Robert Esparza.

Pablo Villicana followed with a bunt that pitcher Jess Moreno fielded, but his throw to first was wild, putting runners at second and third. Albert Morales then hit a two-run double.

The Pilots added two runs in the fifth. No. 9 hitter Aaron Martinez led off with a double, ending Moreno’s streak of retiring nine consecutive batters.

Moreno (6-3) was relieved by Abraham Gonzalez, who started in left field. Gonzalez induced Johnny Mendez to hit a grounder to shortstop Rudy Lemos, who threw out Martinez at third.

Gonzalez got the second out when Andy Mendoza filed to right. The Pilots extended the inning when designated hitter Antonio Leon walked on a full-count pitch.

Adrian Chavez followed with a fly ball that fooled right fielder John Sandoval, who retreated and then charged the ball before dropping it for a two-run error.

The No. 5-seeded Tigers (24-8) managed only four baserunners against Sixtos (12-2), who struck out 11 and pitched his 12th complete game in 14 starts.

Aldo Montalvan doubled to lead off the second for San Fernando and stole third with one out. But designated hitter Jesus Martinez and Gonzalez struck out to the end the inning.

Danny Salazar and Montalvan walked with one out in the fourth, but Sandoval popped to Mendez, Banning’s shortstop, whose throw to second beat pinch-runner Juan Rodriguez for a double play.
