Van Nuys Birmingham 28, Chatsworth 23--The Patriots remembered all too well that Chatsworth ruined their undefeated regular season last year in Week 10. The Patriots trailed at halftime, 23-7, but rallied behind three touchdown passes in the third quarter by Scott Jensen to keep alive an undefeated season.
Jensen completed 17 of 24 passes for 299 yards and four touchdowns for Birmingham (8-0, 4-0). Ramal Porter had seven catches for 192 yards, including a 73-yard touchdown reception with 1:20 left in the third quarter to put Birmingham up for good, 28-23.
Jensen also connected on scoring passes in the third quarter to Sean Nanakonpanon for 15 and 26 yards.
“That’s what the whole week of practice was about, not to lose to them,” Jensen said. “We feel pretty proud.”
Chatsworth (6-2, 2-2) dominated the first half with touchdown runs of 50 and 43 yards by Jo Shumpert, but the Chancellors fell flat in the second half and were set back when quarterback Jason Moss left the game in the third quarter with an ankle injury. Moss completed 11 of 18 passes for 154 yards and a touchdown.
