McKinney Commits to UCLA

Matt McKinney, a 6-foot-8 basketball and volleyball standout from Santa Ynez High, said Wednesday he has accepted a basketball scholarship to UCLA.

McKinney is considered among the nation’s top young volleyball players but believes he can be equally successful in basketball once he devotes his full attention to the sport.

He averaged 22 points and 13 rebounds in basketball last season and helped Santa Ynez win a third consecutive Division III volleyball championship. He’ll play volleyball at UCLA only after basketball season....

Linebacker Oscar Lua of Indio has been offered a scholarship by USC but still intends to take several recruiting visits to other schools, Coach Ovideo Machado said....
