SOUTHERN SECTION FOOTBALL PLAYOFFS
Los Alamitos 28, Santa Fe Springs St. Paul 7--Senior running back Quenton Jones rushed for 197 yards to help the Griffins win at Long Beach Wilson High. While Jones’ yardage total was impressive, he did most of his damage on three carries.
Jones scored on an 85-yard run after breaking a tackle in the backfield to give fourth-seeded Los Alamitos a 28-7 lead with 9:20 remaining in the Division I first-round game. Jones had been stopped for a three-yard loss on the play before.
Joseph Garcia scored on two one-yard runs in the second quarter to help the Griffins (8-2-1) open a 21-0 halftime lead.
Jeff Magdaleno threw a 19-yard touchdown pass to Michael Weber midway through the third quarter for the only score for St. Paul (4-5-1).
