1. Santa Ana Foothill (SS-Century)

As sophomores, Gabbie Domanic, Brittany Hayes and Emily Feher helped to end Bell Gardens’ 85-game winning streak and later won the Southern Section Division I title.... They’re only halfway done.

2. Santa Margarita (SS-Serra)

U.S. youth team members Erika Figge and Kristina Kunkel, who led the Eagles to the Division I final last season, are joined by transfers Aimee Stachowski from Mission Viejo Capistrano Valley and Sarah Hamilton from Irvine, both all-section selections last season.

3. Bell Gardens (SS-Almont)

Returning seniors Patty Cardenas and goalkeeper Alex Lopez were selected to the National Interscholastic Swimming Coaches Assn. All-American team for the third time last season.

4. Lake Forest El Toro (SS-South Coast)

A good Charger team got even better with the addition of Lauren Heineck, who spent time with the women’s U.S. national team last summer, and senior Ke’Ala Carter remains an offensive threat after breaking the school’s single-season scoring record last season.

5. Newport Beach Newport Harbor (SS-Sea View)

Sea View League most valuable player Katherine Belden returns for the Division I quarterfinalist after leading the Sailors in scoring, assists, steals and drawn ejections last season.

6. Long Beach Wilson (SS-Moore)

Coach Tony Martinho led the Bruins’ young boys’ team to the Division I title last weekend, and there’s no reason he can’t do it for the girls, especially with U.S. youth team member Cassie Azevedo contributing.

7. Corona del Mar (SS-Pacific Coast)

Aaron Chaney steps in as coach and has a good group to work with, led by junior Christina Hewko, the team’s top defender and second-leading scorer last season who helped the Sea Kings reach the Division IV semifinals.

8. Huntington Beach Edison (SS-Sunset)

Senior Melissa Murphy had a school-record 11 goals against Cypress last season; Leyna Belcher also leads a strong returning cast.

9. Anaheim Canyon (SS-Century)

Speed is the ticket for Canyon, with six returning starters capable of breaking one minute in the 100 freestyle.

10. Riverside Arlington (SS-Ivy).

Jennifer D’Anna and Megan Rosenberger provide offensive punch for the defending Division V champions.
