Los Angeles Marymount is more than primed for another run in the state Division IV girls’ volleyball playoffs, the latest evidence provided in a 15-7, 15-9, 15-3 victory over San Juan Capistrano St. Margaret’s in a Southern regional semifinal Saturday at Marymount.

Cara Thomason delivered 12 kills, Liz Cvitan had eight and Virginia Levanas and Haley Jorgensborg each added seven for the Sailors (32-4), who will play in the Southern regional championship Tuesday. The state finals take place Saturday at Cypress College.

Marymount took a 9-1 lead in the first game and a 9-0 lead in the third. The Sailors struggled in the second game, but extended a 10-8 lead by scoring five of the final six points.

“We’ve played so many hard teams this season,” Marymount Coach Cari Klein said. “We know how to turn it on.”

The Sailors (32-4) won the Division IV title last season but are more balanced this season.

“Last year we had a few key strong players,” Thomason said. “This year, everyone is so versatile. So many people contribute in so many ways.”

Mara Balak had 11 kills and Polly Bendush had eight kills for St. Margaret’s (27-2).
