Hawaii-Bound Jet Diverted to LAX for Security Check
An American Airlines jet en route from Dallas to Honolulu was diverted to Los Angeles International Airport on Sunday morning after the flight crew discovered a box cutter on a catering cart.
On arrival at Gate 49A at LAX Terminal 4, the plane was boarded by airport police, who removed the box cutter. As a precaution, the flight’s approximately 200 passengers were forced to disembark with their carry-on luggage and go through a security screening.
Authorities would not comment on how the box cutter may have gotten on the plane.
“Nothing else was found,” said Nancy Castles, an airport spokeswoman. “There was no threat. There was no suspect.”
The Boeing 767 was delayed three hours, and took off for Honolulu about 1:50 p.m.
