Officer Fires on Teen Driver, Is Struck
A Los Angeles police officer shot and wounded a 16-year-old boy in North Hollywood early Sunday morning shortly before the boy allegedly struck the officer with a car, authorities said.
The teenager was recovering Sunday night from a gunshot wound to the arm, and the officer was treated for a leg injury, police said.
A radio call about illegal street races brought LAPD Officer Brian Wilson, 31, to Saticoy Street near Woodman Avenue about 1:05 a.m. Sunday.
Once there, Wilson pursued a Honda driving erratically in the 7800 block of Atoll Avenue. When the Honda stopped, Wilson got out of his patrol car and approached it. The Honda’s driver accelerated in the direction of the officer, police said.
Wilson drew his pistol and fired several rounds at the driver, later identified as the 16-year-old male. Then the Honda struck Wilson in the leg. After fleeing the scene, the suspected driver was involved in a collision, investigators said.
The suspect’s brother called 911 and paramedics responded, driving him to a hospital, where officers took him into custody. He was treated for a gunshot wound to his arm and was listed in stable condition, police said.
Wilson, on the force for more than six years, was taken to a hospital, treated for the injury to his leg and released.
The suspect was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer.
