Booker Sets State Scoring Record

Lorenzo Booker of Ventura St. Bonaventure broke one state record and moved closer to another when he rushed for 188 yards and three touchdowns in a 39-7 Tri-Valley League victory over Oak Park Saturday at Ventura High.

Booker, who scored on touchdown runs of one, two and 11 yards, has 692 points, surpassing the state mark of 680 set by Tyler Ebell of Ventura from 1998-2000.

Booker, who has rushed for 1,296 yards this season, pushed his total to 6,839 yards and moved into sixth place on the all-time state list. Booker is 922 yards behind state record-holder Dominique Dorsey of Tulare High, who rushed for 7,761 yards.

Booker is fourth on the all-time Southern Section rushing list, 546 yards behind leader Ebell, who had 7,385 yards.

Whitney Lewis had three catches for 101 yards and a 58-yard touchdown for the Seraphs (7-0, 1-0 in league), who extended their winning streak to 35 games. Jack Swisher completed six of 12 passes for 146 yards and two touchdowns.

Brendon Anderson completed 12 of 20 passes for 134 yards for Oak Park (4-2-1, 0-1-1). Monte McNair had eight catches for 117 yards.

Westlake Village Oaks Christian 38, Lucerne Valley 0--Aaron Ware of Oaks Christian gained 174 yards in 17 carries in the nonleague game at Lucerne Valley. Oaks Christian gained 476 rushing to improve its record to 7-0-1.

Beaumont 21, Big Bear 16--Kyle Parson scored on a one-yard run with 5:30 to play to give Beaumont (2-5, 1-2) the DeAnza League victory. Dillon Fisher had 66 yards and a touchdown in 13 carries for Big Bear (5-2, 3-1).

L.A. Cathedral 28, La Jolla The Bishop’s 3--Jabari Jefferson of host Cathedral (4-2) rushed for 162 yards and two touchdowns in 19 carries. The Bishop’s is 4-3.

Los Alamitos 7, Newport Beach Newport Harbor 6--Tyler Drake scored five goals for visiting Los Alamitos (13-9) in a nonleague upset. Jay Thompson had three goals for No. 8 Newport Harbor (10-10).

Huntington Beach Marina 11, Placentia Valencia 6--Jason Cloud and Michael Dorrough each scored four goals for Marina (10-9) in the championship game of the Anaheim Canyon tournament.
