From Times Staff Reports

Moorpark College President James W. Walker has announced that he will retire at the end of the school year in June.

Walker, 65, plans to remain in the area with his wife, Nancy, and possibly do some consulting, teaching or volunteer work. After 43 years in education, Walker has said he no longer wants to work full time.

Walker, who lives in Westlake Village, has been president of Moorpark College since 1992.

During his tenure, Walker published the school’s first comprehensive master plan and saw enrollment jump from 11,900 in 1992 to the current level of 14,500.

A consultant has been hired to search for Walker’s replacement, said Jeanne Bailey, a college spokeswoman. The nationwide search is expected to take several months.
