Arshak Abyanli, a senior forward for the Cal State Northridge men’s soccer team, crowded the top of the Big West goal-scoring list by scoring every goal in the Matadors’ 3-2 victory over Cal Poly San Luis Obispo on Sunday.

Abyanli’s hat trick was the first by a Northridge player since 1999.

Abyanli, teammate Yossi Raz and Fullerton’s Hector Orellana are tied for the conference lead with seven goals.

UC Irvine remains atop the Big West at 3-0-2, 7-3-5 overall.

The Anteaters are coming off a scoreless tie with third-place Northridge and are 4-0-3 in their last seven games.

Irvine and Northridge combined for 50 shots, but Northridge’s Joseph Barton made 11 saves for his fifth shutout. Irvine’s Cameron Rossi made seven saves for his second shutout.

Irvine plays fourth-place Fullerton (3-2-1, 6-7-1) on Sunday.

Northridge (3-1-1, 8-3-2) and UC Santa Barbara (3-1-1, 7-4-3) are tied for second place and play Friday at Santa Barbara.

San Luis Obispo defended its Big West women’s cross-country title and Santa Barbara broke San Luis Obispo’s three-year winning streak in the men’s division last weekend at Cuesta/Fairbanks Cross-Country Course in San Luis Obispo.

Santa Barbara junior Katie Appenrodt won the women’s individual title with a time of 17 minutes 47 seconds over 5,000 meters.

Eric Gans of Santa Barbara won the men’s title, completing the 8,000-meter course in 25:56.
