From Times Staff Reports

A police task force searched five houses throughout the city Wednesday, arresting two teenage gang members on suspicion of violating probation and confiscating a rifle, handgun and several rounds of ammunition.

Oxnard Police Det. Neail Holland said the raids came in response to a rise in drive-by and other types of shootings and assaults with knives, sticks and other weapons.

Holland did not have statistics but said a majority of the cases involved retaliation between rival gangs. Detectives are planning additional searches.

Authorities were investigating whether the boys taken into custody or the weapons were involved in any of the shootings.
