Peninsula Doubly Joyful in Victory

Two doubles teams for top-ranked Palos Verdes Peninsula swept their sets Tuesday, leading the Panthers to a 13-5 victory over Fullerton Troy in a girls’ tennis match at Peninsula.

Danielle Holt teamed with Nikki LaBrucherie, and Macall Harkins teamed with Christina Jackson in the sweeps for Peninsula.

Freshman Claire Fermin swept three singles sets for fourth-ranked Troy.

In other girls’ tennis matches:

Dana Hills 12, Irvine Woodbridge 6--Kristin Bronowicki and Kristen Wilson swept their doubles matches, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0, and Dana Hills (3-2) won eight of nine doubles sets in the nonleague match at Woodbridge.

Dana Hills’ Kady Pooler defeated Elizabeth Exon while sweeping, 6-2, 6-3, 6-1, in singles.

Garden Grove 9, Garden Grove Bolsa Grande 9 (Garden Grove wins on games, 85-69)--Ngoc An Huynh won the deciding singles match for Garden Grove in a key Garden Grove League match.

In boys’ water polo:

Whittier La Serna 8, Manhattan Beach Mira Costa 7--Bryan Price scored three goals, Ryan Nandy added two and David Goetz and Kenny Hill each had one as the Lancers won a nonleague game at home.

La Serna (5-2) is ranked fourth in Division III in the latest Southern Section poll. Mira Costa is top-ranked.

Tyler Krikorian scored five goals for Mira Costa.

Santa Ana Foothill 10, Anaheim Esperanza 7--Sophomore Frank Reynolds had three goals and goalie Ian Elliott made 10 saves to lead Foothill (2-0) in the nonleague game at Esperanza.

Lake Forest El Toro 9, La Canada 5--Brent Danna and Geoff Wright had three goals to lead El Toro (1-1) to the nonleague victory at El Toro.

Carlsbad 9, San Clemente 8 (OT)--Brian Armstrong scored the game-winning goal for Carlsbad (5-1). Logan Powell had five goals for San Clemente (1-1).

In girls’ volleyball:

Ventura d. Oxnard, 16-14, 15-13, 8-15, 15-11--Elena DeAlba had 25 kills, six blocks and four aces for the Cougars (5-0) in a nonleague match at Oxnard.
