Council to Consider Smoking Ban at Parks
It may soon get even harder for smokers to light up in Los Angeles.
A motion calling for a smoking ban at all city parks was presented Wednesday at the City Council meeting.
Councilwoman Jan Perry, who introduced the motion, said such a ban would prevent the harm secondhand smoke poses to park visitors each year. She said discarded cigarettes also create fire hazards and pollution.
Los Angeles already regulates smoking in most indoor public places including restaurants, elevators, supermarkets and offices.
A smoking ban would include all the city’s 385 parks, totaling 15,600 acres.
