Northridge Loses After Leading by 21

Marcus Brady had 480 yards of total offense and threw three first-half touchdown passes but Cal State Northridge blew a 21-point lead in the fourth quarter and lost, 30-27, in overtime to Stephen F. Austin in an NCAA Division I-AA nonconference game at Nacogdoches, Texas.

Brady completed 26 of 48 passes for 415 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions. He also rushed for 65 yards in seven carries. The Matadors (0-2) led, 24-6, at halftime and 27-6 entering the final quarter. Stephen F. Austin (1-2) blocked a Matador field-goal attempt to secure the victory.

Redlands 44, Cal Lutheran 30--Clay Groefsema completed 15 of 24 passes for 268 yards and three touchdowns to lead Redlands (1-1, 1-0) to a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Assn. victory at Cal Lutheran.

Shawn Watson had three receptions for 112 yards and touchdown catches of 17 and 85 yards. He also rushed for 125 yards in 20 carries.

Chris Czernek of Cal Lutheran (2-1, 1-1) completed 24 of 57 passes for 341 yards, but was intercepted four times. .

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 21, La Verne 3--Ryan Gocong rushed for two touchdowns and added a two-point conversion run for the Stags (2-0, 1-0 in SCIAC) in a victory at La Verne (0-2, 0-2).

In junior college games:

Palomar 36, Long Beach 14--Andy Goodenough completed 24 of 30 passes for 358 yards and four touchdowns with no interceptions for Palomar, which had 596 total yards, in a Mission Conference opener.

Long Beach gained 241 yards, led by Craig Richardson, who carried 17 times for 91 yards and a touchdown run of 27 yards. Palomar (3-0) is ranked fifth in the nation by the J.C. Gridwire; Long Beach (2-1) is ranked 11th.

Cerritos 26, Fullerton 23--Jermaine Whiten’s third touchdown of the second half, a nine-yard run with 6:53 to play, led Cerritos (2-0) to victory over Fullerton (2-1) in a Mission Conference opener.

Pasadena 44, Golden West 7--Nathan Chandler threw for 309 yards and four touchdowns in a Mission Conference opener.
