Calabasas Sneaks by Peninsula

Erin Everly swept three sets at No. 2 singles for Calabasas High to key an upset of Palos Verdes Peninsula in a nonleague match Monday at Peninsula.

The match ended in a 9-9 tie, but Calabasas won on games, 73-72. Calabasas is ranked seventh by The Times, Peninsula is ranked second.

Everly defeated Shilpa Joshi, 7-6 (7-1); Paige Weber, 6-1, and Alex Jurwitz, 6-3. Calabasas’ Monica Wiesener, usually the Coyotes’ No. 1 player, played at No. 3 and swept three sets, improving to 18-0 in sets.

Celia Durkin won two sets for Calabasas, and Chloe Solomon and Amanda Fink posted the Coyotes’ only victory in doubles. Calabasas won eight of nine singles sets.

It was the Panthers’ second consecutive loss after having their round-robin match winning streak of 66 snapped by Corona del Mar last week.
