Salvation Army Trailers Ransacked, 1 Set on Fire
An Oxnard charity is seeking donations of Christmas toys, food and medical supplies after thieves ransacked four storage trailers.
Capt. Norman Patton, who runs the Salvation Army’s community center in Oxnard, said thieves broke the padlocks late Sunday night, emptying boxes and taking food, furniture and supplies.
The loss is estimated at $10,000, including $5,000 in Christmas toys that were destroyed when one of the trailers was set on fire, Patton said. Donations are needed to make up the loss in time for the holidays.
The center on Wooley Road serves tens of thousands of low-income families, migrant workers and seniors by assisting with free clinics, a shelter, food pantry and counseling. Every Christmas, the center delivers gifts to about 800 children in the Oxnard and Port Hueneme area.
Those wishing to support the center may call 483-9235.
