Los Alamitos Is Back on Track, 42-17

Los Alamitos ended its latest streak Friday night, defeating Bellflower St. John Bosco, 42-17, in a nonleague game at Veterans’ Stadium in Long Beach.

The Griffins came into the game with a two-game losing streak for the first time in 10 years. Los Alamitos, better remembered for its 47-game unbeaten streak in the early 1990s, took its time getting started against the Braves before scoring 35 unanswered points in the second and third quarters.

The Griffins (2-2) finally got a first down with 26 seconds remaining in the first quarter, then got on the scoreboard on a 44-yard touchdown run by Quinton Jones with 7:30 left in the half. Until that run, the Braves had limited Jones to only 19 yards in five carries. He finished with 178 yards in 25 carries.

Los Alamitos’ defense limited St. John Bosco to two first downs in the first half. The Griffins took a 14-0 lead on a 13-play drive late in the half that was capped by Jones’ one-yard run.

Jones scored on a 35-yard run on the Griffins’ first possession of the second half. Los Alamitos quarterback Tim Bessolo then connected on a 40-yard touchdown pass play to Kevin Van Gorder and a 41-yard strike to Brandon Tripp. Tripp had 10 receptions for 118 yards.
