Eight Ventura County elementary campuses have been named California Distinguished Schools for 2002.
The top state honor is awarded to schools based on such criteria as curriculum, test scores, parent involvement, assistance for special-needs students and safety programs. The selections are based on lengthy applications and visits to the schools.
This year’s winners are Aspen, Banyan and Westlake schools in the Conejo Valley Unified School District; Walnut Canyon in Moorpark Unified School District; Brookside in Oak Park Unified School District; Topa Topa in Ojai Unified School District; Camarillo Heights in Pleasant Valley School District; and Poinsettia in Ventura Unified School District.
