Share

In this front-page article on LAUSD gains in reading and math scores on the Stanford 9 exam, the writers quote only teachers, district officials and educational experts who favorably view the testing program and the changes standardized testing and standards have brought into California schools. Is there no one who thinks test scores are rising because students and teachers are growing accustomed to the Stanford 9 test? Is there no one who questions whether higher test scores really mean students possess stronger skills? Is there no one who laments the loss of meaningful art, music or science education in the regular primary-grade curriculum due to the increased time spent on scripted language and math instruction?
