Tax and Protect
Re “Supervisors Object to Baca’s Sales Tax Request,” Dec. 18: Can you put a price on public safety? According to the L.A. County Board of Supervisors, you can. Its recent criticism of Sheriff Lee Baca’s proposal to place a half-cent sales tax on the ballot further conveys its views on protecting the county.
The concern of new funding not going to other law enforcement organizations is preposterous. Crime is not contained within the boundaries of a city. Less criminal activity in one area helps another. The Board of Supervisors needs to get off its pedestal and fund the Sheriff’s Department adequately, or we can continue to expect a rise in crime throughout the county.
