Texas Tech doesn’t look anything like last season’s team that finished 9-19 overall and tied for last in the Big 12 Conference at 3-13.

On Saturday at Lubbock, Texas, the Red Raiders didn’t look anything like the team that was blown out by Oklahoma in Norman two weeks ago.

Andre Emmett had 26 points and 10 rebounds to lead Texas Tech to a 92-79 victory over sixth-ranked Oklahoma--its second win in eight days over a top 10 team. The Red Raiders beat then-No. 6 Oklahoma State, 98-72, in its previous game on Jan. 19.

Texas Tech, 15-3 overall and 4-2 in the Big 12, repeatedly took the ball inside against Oklahoma (15-3, 4-2)--outscoring the Sooners in the paint by 12 points.

Oklahoma, the conference leader in scoring defense (62.2) before Saturday’s game, gave up more than 90 points for the first time this season. The Sooners defeated Texas Tech, 98-72, on Jan. 12.

“I thought our kids did a really good job coming back off of having been beaten as badly up there as we were,” Texas Tech Coach Bob Knight said. Texas Tech led, 40-37, at halftime after trailing by 22 points at the break in the first game with Oklahoma. The Red Raiders shot 65.5% (19 for 25) in the second half and led by as many as 16 points.

“In the second half we couldn’t get them stopped,” Oklahoma Coach Kelvin Sampson said. “We didn’t score any baskets in transition because we were taking the ball out of the net and walking it up the court. We played uphill all night, and it seemed like they played downhill.”

Oklahoma got 27 points from Hollis Price and 19 from Aaron McGhee, but its other players scored only 33 points and shot 37.5% (12 for 32).

Texas Tech finished with 56.7% shooting (34 for 60), five double-figure scorers and 25 assists.
