Landfill Site Studied for Baseball Academy
From Times Staff Reports
The major league baseball youth academy originally planned for the Hansen Dam area may instead be built at an Arleta landfill, Los Angeles city officials said Tuesday.
The original location for the $10-million project was changed this spring amid concerns about children’s exposure to power lines.
On Tuesday, City Council President Alex Padilla introduced a motion to begin studying the feasibility of a 41-acre site at Shelton Arleta Landfill, which the city closed in 1974, said Padilla’s spokesman David Gershwin.
