From Times Staff and Wire Reports

A Seal Beach man has been sentenced to nearly three years in prison for failing to pay state income taxes on his earnings and the $326,000 he allegedly embezzled from his employer’s bank account.

Richard A. Morley, 58, was convicted in May of failing to file state income tax returns for 1998 and 1999, and failing to report more than $300,000 in gross income from both his earnings and the allegedly embezzled funds, said Patrick Hill of the state Franchise Tax Board.

The jury deadlocked on theft and forgery charges stemming from the alleged wire transfers from Morley’s employer’s account, for his own use, from 1997 to 2000. He faces a new trial in September.
