The Ventura County Community College District board of trustees approved a $186,000-a-year contract this week for acting Chancellor James Walker.

Walker was appointed last week amid a spending scandal involving Chancellor Philip Westin.

Trustees approved the contract Tuesday on a unanimous vote.

Walker, who retired last month as president of Moorpark College, said he will remain until the board of trustees no longer needs him.

Westin was placed on paid administrative leave last week, pending an investigation of his expenses.

Westin, who earns $203,000 a year, spent $119,000 in taxpayer money over four years on meals, computer equipment and automobile services, officials said.
