Claim Filed Against City in Alleged Abuse Case
The parents of a 7-year-old who police claim was molested by a city recreation leader at an after-school care facility have filed a $2.5-million claim against Newport Beach.
Trenton Veches was arrested in April after a co-worker reported seeing him sucking a child’s toes. Authorities allege that Veches did the same to dozens of children, sometimes photographing his actions.
The claim alleges Newport Beach officials didn’t check his background thoroughly enough. Officials have said their checks before he was hired found no arrests or record of inappropriate behavior.
