Montebello Claims Title

Ricky Rodriguez hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to give Montebello a 4-2 victory over Whitter California in the championship game of its own tournament Friday night at York Field in Whittier.

Juan Campos pitched five innings, allowing two runs on five hits with five strikeouts, for Montebello (4-0).

Matt Ramirez hit a two-run homer in the second inning to give California (4-1) a 2-0 lead. Carlos Angulo led off the bottom of the fifth inning with a homer to pull Montebello within 2-1.

In other baseball games:

Anaheim Esperanza 11, Riverside La Sierra 4--Senior Greg Miller (2-0) went five innings and had 10 strikeouts to lead the Aztecs (4-1) to a victory over La Sierra (3-2) in the third-place game of the North Orange County tournament.

Scott Henry had two hits and drove in two runs for Esperanza.

La Quinta 3, Peninsula 0--Ian Kennedy pitched a one-hitter with 11 strikeouts and hit a home run to lead La Quinta (4-1) to fifth place in the North Orange County tournament.

Andy Beal struck out eight and gave up six hits for Peninsula (3-2).

Placentia Valencia 3, Murrieta Valley 0--Hector Ambriz pitched a four-hitter, striking out 10, and Jack Ryser hit his second home run of the season to lead Valencia (3-2) to a victory over Murrieta Valley (2-3) and ninth place in the North Orange County tournament.

El Monte Mountain View 11, Buena Park 1--Phillip Tienado hit his fourth home run of the season and drove in three runs for Mountain View (2-3) in a consolation-game victory over Buena Park (2-3) in the North Orange County tournament.

Phelan Serrano 13, Baldwin Park 5--Chris Vega went three for three, drove in two runs and scored twice to lead the Diamondbacks (4-0) to a victory in a Don Lugo tournament round-robin game.

Aaron Kielman hit a three-run home run in the sixth inning for Serrano. Ramon Cabral had two hits, including a double, for Baldwin Park (2-2).

Rialto Eisenhower 9, Fontana A.B. Miller 1--Jose Pagan (2-0) pitched a complete game to lead Eisenhower (5-1) to a victory in the third round of the Chino tournament. Joe Delgado had three hits, including a double, and drove in three runs and Jesse Iglesias and Rickey Harris each had two hits for the Eagles.

Jose Munoz and Frank Martinez each had two hits for Miller.

Dana Hills 7, Anaheim Esperanza 6--Candice Bylar tripled with the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth inning to lift Dana Hills (4-1) to a nonleague victory over visiting Esperanza (0-3).

Canyon Country Canyon 1, Thousand Oaks 0--Nicole Lepine’s single in the eighth inning scored Crystal Roberts to give the Cowboys a victory in the Hart tournament quarterfinals. Canyon’s Jennifer Henderson threw a two-hitter with seven strikeouts.

In boys’ tennis:

Rosemead Bosco Tech 15, Bellflower St. John Bosco 3--Marco Pineda did not give up a game at No. 1 singles in sweeping three sets for Bosco Tech (7-0) in a nonleague victory over St. John Bosco at Whittier Narrow Recreation Center in South El Monte.

Pineda, No. 2 singles player James Oliveras and the No. 1 doubles team of Welton Chan and Jesse Torres are unbeaten in 21 sets this seasons.

Camarillo 9, Simi Valley 9 (Camarillo wins on games 88-63)--Jason Mossembekker swept his three singles sets, 6-1, 6-0, 6-0 to help host Camarillo (2-3) take the nonleague victory.
