Cal Poly Pomona Wins Division II Title Again

Cal Poly Pomona won its second consecutive NCAA Division II women’s basketball championship and fifth overall, beating Southeastern Oklahoma State, 74-62, Saturday at Rochester, Minn.

“It’s nice to put the icing on the cake,” Bronco senior Kim Kennedy said. “What better way to get the fifth banner?”

Senior Lauri McIntosh, the Division II player of the year, had 31 points and 11 rebounds to lead Cal Poly Pomona. McIntosh is from Diamond Bar High.

Aprile Powell, a sophomore from Santa Ana Century High, had 20 points and nine rebounds and senior guard Leah Whatley had eight assists for Cal Poly Pomona (28-4).

Southeastern Oklahoma State ended 27-7.

Shaquala Williams scored 21 points and Cathrine Kraayeveld added 16 points and 11 rebounds to help Oregon beat Michigan State, 65-54, in a semifinal at Eugene, Ore. The Ducks (21-13) advanced to play Houston .... Chandi Jones scored 32 points to help Houston (26-7) defeat Virginia Tech, 77-72, in overtime in a semifinal at Blacksburg, Va.
