A girls basketball coach sued San Marino police and the city in federal court Monday, alleging his civil rights were violated when he was arrested on allegations that he molested a player.

Patrick Gillan, 36, the varsity coach at San Marino High School, alleges he was arrested on “unfounded and unbelievable allegations of sexual assault on a player, who, with her mother, was obviously carrying out a vendetta.”

Citing insufficient evidence, the district attorney’s office declined to file charges.
