Seminoles Lose Jones

Florida State’s Greg Jones, the leading rusher in the Atlantic Coast Conference, will miss the rest of the season because of a torn ligament in his right knee.

An MRI exam Monday showed that Jones tore the anterior cruciate ligament and injured the medial collateral ligament during the Seminoles’ victory over Wake Forest on Saturday, team trainer Randy Oravetz said.

The 240-pound junior tailback had 938 yards rushing and eight touchdowns.

“It’s such a shame, he was having such a good year,” Coach Bobby Bowden said.

Washington State cornerback Jason David underwent surgery to repair the cheekbone broken last week when he was punched in the locker room by teammate Ira Davis.

Davis, a linebacker, will be suspended until David can return to play, Cougar Coach Mike Price said.

“When Jason plays, Ira will play,” Price said.

In addition, Davis must take part in an anger management program and comply with other unspecified conditions set by Price.
