The director of admissions at UC Irvine has been tapped to head undergraduate admissions for the University of California system.
Susan Wilbur, 52, will oversee a system that handled 95,014 student applications this year, a 32% increase in the last five years.
“We are in a period of tremendous growth,” Wilbur said. “Very clearly, a major issue facing us is accommodating that student demand.”
Wilbur, who has undergraduate and graduate degrees from USC and a doctorate in higher education from UCLA, came to UCI in 1979 as a student recruiter. Since she took over the admissions department in 1993, the number of freshman and community college transfer applications at UCI has nearly doubled.
Wilbur will begin her new job in January and be based in Oakland.
