Slow Day for Nakatani

Share

After winning six races in the first five days of the Oak Tree meet to take the lead in the jockey standings, Corey Nakatani won’t have many opportunities to build on his advantage today.

Nakatani, who earned his six wins with 30 mounts, is named to ride only three horses. He is on 7-5 morning-line choice Himalayan in the first and contenders Come Back Ronnie in the sixth and That Cool Cat in the seventh.

Himalayan, a 2-year-old Mountain Cat filly, is trying claimers for the first time after finishing off the board in consecutive graded stakes at Hollywood Park and Del Mar.

Come Back Ronnie is the 5-1 second choice in the sixth, a $62,500 claimer at one mile on the turf.

That Cool Cat is 8-1, but the late runner could get an ideal set-up in a race filled with need-the-lead types.

Race of the day: Sightseek, a Distant View filly trained by Bobby Frankel, will try for her third win in four starts and her first in a stakes in the $150,000 Raven Run at Keeneland.

Who’s hot: Edgar Prado. The jockey won eight races over the weekend at Keeneland.

Who’s not: Garrett Gomez and Jose Valdivia Jr. The riders combined to begin Oak Tree two for 33.

Exotically speaking: A pick four using Window B, Holy Mackerel, Valiant Vision and No Curfew in the fifth, singling Turkish Prize in the sixth, using That Cool Cat, Full Strike and Big Team Spirit in the seventh and Chi Chi Nette, Tahitian Rain and Life Estate in the eighth.

Winners: Previous day/meet total: 4/13. Money: Previous day/meet total: $19/$57. Total money bet: $88.
