Bibby to Have Foot Surgery

Sacramento King point guard Mike Bibby was scheduled to have surgery on his right foot today for a fracture he sustained during practice Friday.

No time frame was given for Bibby’s return, but Geoff Petrie, Sacramento’s president of basketball operations, said in a statement Friday that the surgery would be a minor delay in Bibby’s season.

Point guard Raul Lopez probably will sit out all of his first NBA season because of a torn knee ligament, but the Utah Jazz hope he will eventually replace John Stockton.

Lopez had surgery nearly two weeks ago on his right knee. He first injured the knee in 2001--after being drafted by the Jazz--and reinjured it in an exhibition with Spain’s national team in August.

Stephon Marbury of the Phoenix Suns will play with a sore ankle this season unless the pain becomes too much to bear. Marbury underwent surgical procedures on both ankles during the summer, but pain caused by bone spurs in his left ankle has persisted.

Indiana Pacer forward Ron Artest will be sidelined for two weeks while waiting for a dislocated finger on his shooting hand to heal. Artest had surgery Sept. 5 and participated in the Pacers’ training camp last week.... The Philadelphia 76ers waived guard William Avery and center Alvin Jones.
